SAMIRA MIAN

My first time actually doing Geometry and attempted it was actually at one of Samira’s workshops in Bethnal Green. I will never forget her positivity and her kindness and her passion for Islamic Geometry.

Her website www.samiramian.uk is so easy to access and its filled with information about her work. She has ongoing workshops and Courses all over London, An online tutorial course where she teaches you various patterns for different levels, And she has Recommendations of materials and much more. Samira also has a Youtube channel where you can construct patterns for free, and theyre soooo easy to follow. Go and check her out.

I would definately recommend her as the first point of call for Islamic Geometry and would definately recommend going to one of her workshops too!

Mohamad Aljanabi

When I first saw one of Mohamad’s thumbnails on Youtube I was like u wot m8? He constructs patterns using the traditional way of constructing patterns - i.e. constructing the corner of a pattern and making it bigger.

By the end of his videos I would be so pumped and like sdalfjasfaskjfhasl he makes it soooo simple, and his method is so simplistic using a minimal amount lines to create the same pattern.

Mohamad also has various videos in Arabic regarding Islamic calligraphy as well

…..

may Allah bless him.

nOUJAN aDL

I came accross noujan on instagram, and Can I just say.. fammmm.

I think one of the most difficult things I personally find in Islamic geometry, isn’t actually the construction of the pattern itself - although it does contribute towards the some brain throbbing - Rather, choosing the right colours to match one another is soooo frustrating when done incorrectly. You know when you have a specific colour in mind, and it just doesn’t come out how you want it - that is one of the most annoyingggg things. I think Noujan can definately relate because he says this a lot himself.

Nevertheless, Noujan’s colour matching is outstanding and his work is so aesthetically pleasing. He uses Copic markers, which are hellaaaaaa expensive, But you can just see the quality of his work in the choice of pens the way he blends the colours really well too. I’m sure he takes a lot of time to draw his pieces too because the precision is outstanding.

A lot of his captions say things like ‘

And I utter these kind of things too. But, like a friend said to me we really are our own critics!

Definitely go and check him out.
